Are you having fun yet??

Are you having fun yet??

Well, if you are not having fun you must not be in the Central Valley of Califonia, because if has been just a wonderfun summer.

Plenty of sunshine, plenty fruits ( I really like to buy at roadside fruits stands) and of course the heat is not too bad in the valley because it's a "dry heat" haha, anyway we like to say that because it makes us feel better!!

World Handcrafts has received some new merchandize and it is sooo pretty!  Every time a shipment comes in I feel like it's a party, opening all those boxes and packages.  We are all excited to see how interesting and pretty the items are.

Many are made of recycled paper, recycled soda cans etc.  These artisans are really very creative!!

This month we have some very cute cards from Africa.  They are made by orphans in Rwanda.  Children that were orphaned during the genicide and some whose parents have died of aids.   Some are children caring for younger children.

Money earned by making these cards gives them food, schooling but most of all HOPE

At the Quilt Center, we have also received some new fabrics.  We have some wonderful fall and Christmas panels to piece together a wallhanging of a table runner.   There is only one problem with that.  I WANT SOME OF IT!.  I have to work out a schedule to sit and sew at least an hour a day.

The problem with an hour a day is, I don't  know when the hour is up and before you know it, it is midnight and I just pieced some fabrics on the wrong side, :(sigh), husband come in and asks " are you comming to bed anytime soon, I want to turn off the light".  I don't think that happens to any of you, does it?

Good night...

It's Summer!!

02 Jul 2010

It's Summer!!!

It's July 2, 2010, the weather in Central California is heating up.  We've had a few day over 100 degrees but I sure that many more are coming, but that is to be expected in the valley.

Along with the heat we also have all of the delicious fruits, strawberries, blueberries, all berries I think except cranberries that I know of.  Then there are are tree fruits, apricots, cherries, peaches, nectarine, plums.  I guess then there are the combination  pluots or plumcots or some other.

After August then the grapes, apples and of course pomagranates.   So you see you can't have fruit without the heat...

This bring us to the middle of the year. and that means our HOT HOT inventory reduction sale.  July 9 and 10 , all regular-priced fabric, notions and books will be 25% off.

This year World Handcrafts will also be having a sale and together we will offer you many choices for a bargain.  So be sure to come in early to get the best selection.

By the way come in and meet the new Manager of Worldhandcrafts. Heidi Gonzalez will be in on these sale days.  Come and say HI.

Stay cool....

Is it Spring yet???

25 May 2010

I don't  know about you but I am not sure if it is winter or sping.

Not that I am complaining, its just that when I put away my flannel pj because it is 80 degree, well next day I am having to pull them out again.

I am also anxious for fresh peaches, plums and of course apricots.  There cherries have been wonderful but their season is almost over.

Well here at the World Handcrafts and Mennonite Quilt center we are gearring up for summer.

Fun quilt classes for adults and also children's classes.  The children's class fills up fast and I am hoping for a teacher so we can offer more of them throughout the year.

Second week in July we will having a "Middle of Year, inventory sale"  for both World Handcraft and Mennonite quilt center.  So if you are looking for a special gift, do come in and look at what we have so you will get an idea of what you might want to buy.

Oh! by the way If you would like to have a chance at winning a $50 . gift certificate please come in and give us your email address.  We will continue to send our class fliers by snail mail, but to have a chance to win you must agree to recieve the class schedule by email.

Well I guess that is all for today,

Hey, where did the sun go, and it looks very cloudy, and the announcer said snow above 6,000 ft. Oh, well that only means more water, that is good in California!

Street Faire!

16 Apr 2010

STREET FAIRE!

May 2 is Street Faire in Reedley.  We are planning on having a booth, serving some coffee, (fair trade coffee of course),and displaying some of our international gifts.
Well we hope we won't just be displaying but also selling some of the gifts.  We will be handing out some informational material.  Some of you know about us and our mission but you would be surprised as to how many people from Reedley don't know anything about Worldhandcraft and Mennonite Quilt Center.
Many people still think that we are the MCC thrift store, oh well, maybe some will be enlighten by comming to our booth.  Hope to see you there.
 Come by and say, Hey!.
