World Handcrafts
"Where every purchase counts"
World Handcrafts is a non-profit, fair trade store partnered with Ten Thousand Villages. We work with emerging country artisans to provide a fair wage for the crafts they produce.
This enables the artisans to market their products to us while allowing them to afford medical, housing and education for their families instilling dignity and sustainability.
Artisans are helped in getting started in their craft and are paid 50% upon our orders and the balance when the items ship, long before it reaches our doors!
This provides money to the artisans to pay for supplies for their crafting as well as supporting their family.
This job creation program was developed as a creative way to promote social and economic progress in developing countries.
This program is a member of the Fair Trade Federation.
Fair Trade means:
*no child exploitation *fair pay for labor, *concern for the environment *long-term relationships *respect for cultural identity *employee involvement in decisions *equal opportunity for women *reasonable working conditions in the local context. In addition to the fair trade items we also work closely with local farmers and provide items from our local soils (i.e., jams, jellies, sauces, oils, nuts, and fruits), always changing with the seasons and help of mother nature!
