Welcome to

Mennonite Service Center

This is a non-profit organization in Reedley, California, with several entities           working together, in their separate ways. Staffed mostly by volunteers, helping to meet the needs of people around the world.

 Mennonite Quilt Center

On Monday mornings ladies gather at the quilt store in Reedley, California to spend the morning quilting, tying comforters, having coffee, sharing recipes and problems, but mostly having fun. The quilts that are made are displayed in the quilt museum upstairs. These quilts plus others that are donated are auctioned at the annual Mennonite Sale and Auction Pic1held at Fresno Pacific University in April.

The store has about 1,000 bolts, in a wide variety of fabrics and many sewing notions as well as handmade quilts and comforters. A large number of the handmade quilts come from Southeast Asia. This is a job creation program helping women provide for themselves and their families.

We welcome tours to our shop where we show people how quilts are hand quilted, comforters are tied, and rug weavers make rugs out of recycled blue jeans.

World Handcrafts

We are a Fair Trade store. Fair Trade means hope, opportunity and bringing dignity to provide for  families that would otherwise not have an income. We market their handcrafts and food products in a just and direct manner. This job creation program was developed as a creative way to promote social and economic progress in developing countries. This program is a member of the Fair Trade Federation.

Fair Trade means:

  • no child exploitation
  • fair pay for their labor
  • concern for the environment
  • long-term relationships
  • respect for cultural identity
  • employee involvement in decisions
  • equal opportunity for woman
  • reasonable working conditions in the local context

We also have local jams, jellies, marmalades and greeting cards from several local artists.

Nearly New

If you enjoy thrift shops, you will enjoy Nearly New, located next door to World Handcrafts and Mennonite Quilt Center (quilt store) The volunteers at this store sort the donated items and get them ready to put out on the floor to sell. Among the donated items are some that we would say "one person's discard is another's treasure." In this store you will enjoy looking at some antiques and collectibles. For collectors there are books, jewelry, porcelain figurines, etc.
